Domaine Eddie Féraud Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2016, 750 ml.
This is a wine with power. A Grenache based Châteauneuf-du-Pape with a bit of mouvedre. With lot of intensity as there should be in a Châteauneuf wine.
Feraud is not just a just a name for Chateauneuf-enthusiasts - and Eddie Fedraud is also cousin to Laurence Feraud from illustrious Domaine du Pegau. Maybe the talent of squeezing the tastiness out of ancient Grenache stem is simply genetic?
Eddie founded the domain in the early 80's og has since handed over the wheel to the son Yannick, who manages the 5 hectar top fields in the municipality's east end, where to stems age are a half century old in average, and where the neighbour's name is Chateau Rayas. It's the red tinted and stony field's area, where the stems must search deep to get water.
Yannick's approach is ultra simpel. Low harcest yield, without added yeast, no filtration, no clarification and no new barrels. It's plain Grenache fruit with an accent of mouvedre and aristocratic finesse.
